I met with three contractors for my project to fix the incorrect color on my back deck which was done by the previous owner (violation of HOA) and to get my front deck stained as it had been partially sanded down and unstained (also the previous owner). Carlos was the only one who was knowledgeable and honest about some of the decisions I would need to make. For example, some of the wood was treated wood which he would not be able to sand down without endangering his crew, me and any of my neighbors (i.e. hazardous materials). The other two contractors did not notice this. His crew did fantastic work and took their time to ensure that the end result was amazing! I highly recommend Carlos and Total Wood Preservation.

I reached out to a few deck refinishers, and while some were super busy, they offered estimates based on pictures or showed up at their convenience. Carlos, on the other hand, actually took the time to meet with me and understand exactly what I wanted. He recommended which deck boards to replace and, when I mentioned that my Eichler-style window walls could get wet from the power wash, he assured me he would protect them before prepping. Another company basically declared that was not their job and it was up to me to put towels under the doors!!! Carlos' estimate was the best, and he managed to fit me into his schedule right away. He showed up on time with a helper and, just as promised, made sure no water got through the windows or doors into the house. I had added a new deck next to the old one, and blending the two—new and old redwood—was a challenge. But Carlos' stain suggestion worked out perfectly! Depending on the light, you can hardly tell the difference between the new and old wood. The work was finished ahead of schedule, and the deck has held up great, even through the recent heavy rains. I’ll definitely be recommending him to anyone looking to refinish a deck!

Carlos and his team were very professional and did such an amazing job on our deck, handrail and steps! We have a big surface to cover, they spent 6 days just sanding and removing the old water based stain. Our wood was very "old"-looking and dry. The team was always punctual, they showed up at 8am sharp, stop working at 5pm sharp and cleaned every day. Carlos was very communicative and always reachable. He seems to know a lot about wood and how to treat wood well. We will definitely use his service again in the future!

He stained our Trex deck, yes Trex is not maintenance free by a long shot. Actually, it’s garbage, but it would be an enormous cost to replace 750 sf of it, so we have to live with it, unless we win the lottery, or a windfall of cash comes our way. Carlos did a kick..ss job of restoring Trex to a beautiful finish, and that is no easy feat.
